Poland

Poland

Poland is a country full of beautiful landscapes with a number of national parks to enjoy hiking in summer, and the mountain ranges offering ski-ing through the winter months.

Visitors to Poland should have on their radar a visit to Auschwitz and the Salt Mines. Both are very popular tourist destinations and should not be missed.

We chose to do a one day tour of Auschwitz and the Salt Mines with a company called Krakow Shuttle. We found them outstanding from the moment we were collected from our hotel in the morning until we were dropped off at the end of the day. There is plenty of time to both appreciate Auschwitz and its historical value, along with marvelling at the craftsmanship and beauty of the Salt Mines.

Travel Tips

  • Currency – Poland’s currency is the Polish Zloty. They do not recognise the Euro, Pound or American dollar (as at the time this blog was posted) but you can exchange some currencies at the moneychanger, or use the ATM’s to withdraw cash. Credit card is widely accepted.
  • Visas – it is always best to check visa requirements for your own country. This link takes you to a comprehensive visa checklist and also provides other important information for the traveller.
  • Poland is a fairly easy country to get to either via train, or try hiring a vehicle with a driver. This takes all the angst out of moving around a foreign country and takes you door to door. We used Eurobusways and could not fault the service they provided. They were happy to stop for regular breaks when we requested them, and were competent drivers who obviously travel these routes regularly.
