Consider carefully what you will pack, because that suitcase of yours will be dragged to airports, onto public transport, into lifts, up and down stairs and along streets. The heavier it is the more work you are going to be doing.
Rule of thumb for us is to put everything out we would like to take, and then halve it. You really don’t need 5 pairs of shoes for every occasion, and you don’t need that extra pair of trousers just in case!
Travel Tips
- You can easily get away with just 2 pairs of shoes – one casual pair for walking the streets, and one dressy pair for going out in the evening. But if you must….take 3 pairs.
- Depending on how long you are travelling for a change of shirt each day of the week gives you time to wash, and then continue to rotate each week.
- Trousers/pants – you probably only need 4 pairs at the most, of varying weights so you are ready for all weather conditions.
- Summer travel – a light jacket is a must just in case some evenings turn a little cool.
- Winter travel – a light weight, but warm jacket is essential. I recommend buying a puffer jacket, similar to those sold through Uniqlo for women or men. They are very light and very compact, and easily fit into a corner of your bag.
- Buy packing cubes to keep everything tidy and easy to access such as those sold through Amazon. You will appreciate the law and order it brings to your life.
