If you wish to see the Royal Bengal tigers in India then a game park experience is a must. We went to Ranthambore National Park and spent two days enjoying the beauty of nature.
Ranthambore is a national park in northern India and it is known for its conservation program of the Bengal tigers. However, it is also home to many other animals, such as the Indian leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, striped hyena, sloth bear and mugger crocodile, to name a few. The sanctuary is also home to a wide variety of trees, plants, birds and reptiles.
We stayed at the Nahargarh Ranthambore Hotel which was akin to a palace. The property stretches across acres of land and is built in the style of royal retreats that formerly housed Maharajas. This place has to be seen to be believed. It was a wonderful experience and even had a souvenir shop which was very reasonably priced with some excellent products.
But the highlight, of course, is the experience of being in the park. We not only had our tour guide, but an expert naturalist guide on the tour. The park has plenty of wildlife, as well as an abundance of bird life. If you do not get to see the tigers, you will not be disappointed with the amount of wildlife that you experience during the day. There are plenty of photo opportunities as you enjoy driving through the park in an open top jeep. We felt perfectly safe and even though you couldn’t leave the vehicle there was plenty of room on board to move a little to get better shots of the wildlife.
The visit to the wildlife parks is a dedicated visit, so there was not much more to do other than sit back, enjoy the experience on the day and, upon returning to the hotel, savour the tastes of Indian cuisine and hospitality.
All in all a very worthwhile experience, which you will probably only do once in your lifetime!
Travel Tips
- It can get very cold depending on the time of year, and of course it can rain also. Make sure you take warm clothes and wet weather gear. You are exposed to all elements whilst in the park.
Travel Alerts
- There are no toilet facilities in the park, and each safari is usually done over a morning or afternoon, so once you enter the park you need to be able to wait until you return to the hotel to use bathrooms.
Travel Adventures
- The Ranthambore Fort is another tourist attraction in this area if you have time to visit it. It lies within the Ranthambore National Park and has a somewhat complex history in relation to when it was constructed, and the rulers who conquered it over time. There are three Hindu temples inside constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries.
