We were never that keen to go to Las Vegas, but we decided to add it to our last trip to the USA. We are so glad we did. We loved everything about it. It is pure glitz and glamour, and there are just so many interesting things to see.

We stayed at The Venetian Hotel, and wow! This is pure luxury and decadence. When we arrived the front desk offered to upgrade our room to a suite for a very minimal cost. So we decided to take it. The room was spectacular and just so enjoyable after a day in the blistering desert heat.

The underground shopping malls go on forever, and there are just so many shops and restaurants to experience. The food is excellent, the shopping is reasonable and, as you would expect, the whole of Las Vegas is like a Hollywood movie set. Try and visit as many hotels as you can, as they are all unique and spectacular in their own way. As much as possible stay underground as it is very, very hot.

One of the best adventures we have ever had was to take a Sunset Tour to the Grand Canyon with Sundance Helicopters. You are collected by a limousine from your hotel, taken to the airstrip and then up and away you go (after some safety training). Its flight path takes you over the Hoover Dam which is also spectacular from the air.

The Grand Canyon is impressive and the view from the air is amazing. The helicopter drops into the canyon and champagne and sandwiches are served for afternoon tea. The return flight to Las Vegas commences just before sunset, so you get to see the famous Las Vegas strip and surrounds at night.

Travel Tips

  • If you enjoy a flutter on the pokies, or a bet or two at the tables, then remember that all casinos will offer you free drinks if you are sitting at their machines and/or tables.
  • Do not miss the fountain display at the Bellagio Hotel, but get there early as the crowds are huge.

Travel Alerts

  • The temperature is extremely high, so be prepared to take sunscreen and hats. Keep yourself well hydrated as well.

Travel Adventures

  • Fremont Street – a popular tourist spot which has a zipline running the length of it. It is under cover, so gives you a break from the heat.
  • Hoover Dam – there are tours to the dam, or you could hire a car and drive yourself.
  • Cirque du Soleil – if they are performing in Law Vegas then one of their shows is a must. There is literally nothing like them anywhere else in the world.
  • Shows – there are always plenty of shows in Las Vegas, but pre-book because they get sold out every night.
